Pedestrian Traffic: Dublin’s Latest Dose of Authentic Rock N Roll

Welcome back to the blog, music lovers! Today, we're diving deep into the story of a Dublin band that's quickly becoming synonymous with authentic, hook-laden rock and roll: Pedestrian Traffic. Though they only came together recently in October 2024, to be exact this group brings decades of shared history and musical passion to the table, culminating in a sound that promises pure enjoyment. Let’s meet the lads and find out what makes their sound tick.

The Foundation: Childhood Friends and Rock Dreams

The story of Pedestrian Traffic began, as many great rock stories do, years before the band officially formed. The core of the group consists of childhood friends, Shane Smith and Geoff Dunne. After years of friendship, the duo started songwriting together. It was only after this period of development that they decided to formally create a band and start making albums. That decision was solidified during a casual chat that the band describes simply as a "Drunken Conversation", a moment that clearly laid the groundwork for their collective musical journey.

The Lineup: Shane, Geoff, Derek, and Graham

Pedestrian Traffic is defined by its four members: Shane Smith handles Lead Guitar and Vocals, Geoff Dunne is on Rhythm Guitar and Vocals, Derek Brien holds down the Bass Guitar, and Graham Kane drives the rhythm on Drums. When you consider where this energy comes from, it’s worth noting their shared roots. All four members grew up together in Ballymun, a place whose specific history and spirit still influence their music.

Inheriting the Anthem Sound

When asked about the childhood memories and family influences that still resonate in their collective sound, two massive names emerged: Oasis & Stone Roses. But the inspiration doesn't stop there. The group cites a wide range of musical legends they have brought into the group’s attention, including The Beatles, David Bowie, and Bob Marley. These powerful influences help define their collective sound, which the band succinctly describes as Rock N Roll. Their energy and authentic Dublin rock vibes have already lit up stages at venues like Darkey Kelly’s and Bradys Pub.

The Ballymun Shed Sessions

Before hitting the bigger stages, every band needs a place to hammer out the kinks. For Pedestrian Traffic, those breakthrough moments happened in the most grassroots setting possible: rehearsals in a shed in Ballymun. This early environment helped them hone their raw sound and develop the necessary chemistry.

When the Song Just Happens

So, how does this Rock N Roll sound come to life? The band keeps their creative process refreshingly simple. When asked to walk through how a song goes from first idea to finished track, they respond with the straightforward phrase: "Its Just Happens". Collaboration is key, even when disagreements arise. They balance their individual ideas with the band's overall vision by making sure to "Listen To Each Other". And for those inevitable creative differences? They have a clear policy: "We Agree To Disagree".

Milestones and Mysterious Turning Points

Despite their relatively recent formation date in late 2024, Pedestrian Traffic has already achieved significant milestones. Their proudest moment together so far is Creating an Album, showing that their early motivation to "make albums" is now bearing fruit. The release or performance that served as a "turning point" for the band was the single "Sister Mysterious", a standout track also noted alongside "Sunset" for defining their dynamic energy.

Beyond the Backline: Passions and Purpose

What keeps the members of Pedestrian Traffic grounded when they’re not plugging in? Their passions outside of music are primarily Football & Art. These external interests feed back into their collective creativity. While the band doesn't address specific causes or themes through their art, their overarching message is clear: they hope their music conveys Enjoyment.

Connecting with the Crowd

Pedestrian Traffic understands the importance of fan engagement. They connect with their local and online community primarily through Spotify, and they actively welcome influence from their audience. Their fans shape their creative direction through "There Listening And Feedback".

The Road Ahead: Albums and Arenas

Currently, the band is intensely focused on their ongoing project: An Album. Looking five years down the line, their primary goal isn't world domination or complex sonic experimentation—it’s simply to Still Together. However, they definitely have grand aspirations for the future. If they could headline any venue together, they would choose The 3 Arena.

Get Ready for a Melodic Rock Experience

Pedestrian Traffic is preparing to deliver a set that promises a "Rock.N Roll Melodic Experience". This is your chance to catch them live and witness the energy that comes from years of friendship refined into authentic rock. The band has promised to share a specific story about the song "DTA," which focuses on their experiences Growing Up In Ballymun Flats, offering a personal glimpse into their roots.
